What We Do
Environmental and Human Rights in Business
When harm occurs in business operations, it is important that the impacted communities and rights-holders can obtain remedies from any abuse and that corporations are held accountable. It is equally crucial that the state and businesses put in effective safeguards to prevent these abuses from occurring in the first place.
Environmental Justice
The long-term economic prosperity and sustainable development of Cambodia depends on a flourishing and protected natural environment. Yet, environmental harm is frequently observed during and after large-scale developmental projects, many of which are carried out through opaque public-private relationships.
Corporate Accountability
BHRE Center works to close the governance gaps but also combat harmful corporate policies and practices that allow companies to cause harm and avoid responsibility for human rights abuses across their business operations and/or supply chains.
Tech, Digital Rights and Freedom of Expression
It is commonplace for rights defenders, journalists, trade union members, net-citizens and critics to experience online surveillance and judicial harassment due to expressing their critical opinion on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
Protection of Rights Defenders and Journalists
Through a legal-help desk system, we support and build resilience of environmental and human rights defenders (EHRDs) and journalists who are at risk or under duress as a result of their human rights work by providing quality legal aid and pro bono legal services.
BHR+E Academy
The Academy is the first initiative of its kind in Cambodia, combining a three-stage process combining an assessment study analysing contemporary business and human rights problems in Cambodia, mentorship through design labs and human rights due diligence training, and individual guidance sessions
